Established in 2017, Collins Creations 3D Ltd (CC3D) was born from the desperate desire to establish a first port of call for the people of Cornwall to come and explore the ideas and opportunities surrounding additive manufacturing technologies.

After several years as a medical practitioner in the South West of England, it was clear to Cameron that the traditional methods of manufacturing within his line of work (Prosthetics and Orthotics) were outdated and too often ineffective due to extended patient waiting times, limited functionality, dated aesthetic outcomes and coupled with a frustrating lack of innovation, he decided this needed to change.

Additive manufacturing was at the bleeding edge of modern manufacturing and in order to make significant changes to the industry and the local community he loved, this would have to be done outside his line of work and so Cameron embarked on a new path and created Collins Creations 3D.

Origins

"Innovating Community through Additive Manufacture"

Following its true origins as a passion project at home, we needed a place to start growing our printing farm and hone in on the needs of local industries, professions and individuals beyond the medical world.

Our journey began at the inspired Enterprise Space for Advanced Manufacturing (ESAM), where we established a base and grew steadily over a few years, gradually expanding a network of loyal clients across multiple industries including: on and off shore mining, modern art and sculpture, English heritage, wildlife conservation, architecture, student consultation and education, renewable and efficient energy product design, and medical product design and prototyping.

2020 saw us become a beacon of hope for several health commissions and many businesses based around Cornwall when the UK was shrouded with a lack of Personal Protective Equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. We helped maintain and stimulate growth for NHS workers, Restaurateurs, Council members and local businesses during hard and soft lockdown periods by providing a rapid response to the lack of PPE required for business to legally operate.

These actions reinforced our initial assumptions that 3D Printing has a place in the modern world and that rapid prototyping and product manufacture is not something that should be shunned but in fact encouraged.

Growth & Evolution

"Big things have small beginnings"

Following on from the trials of COVID-19 pandemic, we opened up our resources to a much broader audience by expanding out into online commerce and in doing so created our own line of exclusive product. This quickly garnered attention from a passionate global fanbase of several pop culture icons and franchises, which we capitalised upon and have grown successfully since.

With these early successes in 2020/21 it was clear that our dreams of growing a substantial printing farm were coming to life before our eyes, but we were outgrowing what the ESAM facility could provide, so in 2022 we took steps to expand into our own facility much better suited for growth, development, community engagement and staff uptake.

We moved into a new facility in Newham Business Estate in late 2023 with 5x the capacity of our previous base of operations meaning: a new larger scanning suite/area, 5x Printing farm capacity, superior packing and dispatch facilities, larger and safer painting space with improved extraction and a new break-out/"hot-desk" space for employees, students and part-time artists/designers.

Additionally with the help from the Newham Business development team, we have featured in several news articles with completed projects and ways that we support the local community. Newham has offered much better access to local markets and individuals who need our services based in and around the city of Truro.

We are happy to be based in Truro in the heart of Cornwall, and intend to keep expanding into new fields of expertise to learn from the best in those fields and help where we can as efficiently and accurately as possible.
